REVISE DELIVERS SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT TRAINING THROUGHOUT THE FHE SECTOR
Sustainable procurement is considered crucial in meeting the UK’s sustainable development objectives. The UK Government made sustainable consumption and production a key commitment of its Sustainable Development Strategy back in 2005 and Sustainable Procurement is recognised as an element in the UK’s transition to a low carbon economy. In addition, with the formation of the Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Procurement and the eagerly awaited BSI Standard BS 8903 Sustainable Procurement is set to take it rightful place on the sustainability agenda.
Revise is providing national training events on Sustainable Procurement to the three major sector bodies that are working on the agenda. Michelle Dixon, Director of Revise said “We are delighted to be providing Sustainable Procurement Training to The Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), The Sustainable Procurement Centre for Excellence and The Association of University Procurement Officers (AUPO). We have also provided training for the Southern and London Universities Purchasing Consortia.
“Sustainable procurement can also be considered an ‘upstream’ sustainability initiative as it takes a proactive approach to improving efficiency and sustainability performance. In addition, the benefits that sustainable procurement offers are wide reaching and include improved spend control and costs reduction, improved supplier performance, reduced contract risks and significant reputational benefits.
Revise’s interactive training events are intended for all organisations who wish to incorporate sustainability throughout their purchasing systems. They aim to provide the knowledge and skills required to make the first steps in implementing a Sustainable Procurement Programme and follow guidance within the UK’s Sustainable Procurement Flexible Framework”.
The courses have been designed to help organisations embed sustainability in the procurement process. This is done by identifying the key economic, environmental and social impacts of purchasing processes and identifying key areas for setting objectives and targets such as communication, policy and strategy development, training, contract management and whole life costing analysis. The courses also cover EU targets and recommendations and aim to inform how strong links can be developed with wider business and sustainability drivers in your organisation.
